Brainstorm was banned in historic on October 13, 2021. Brainstorm's suspension in Historic has helped shift the metagame in a healthier direction. Because this suspension has proved positive, Brainstorm is banned in Historic. Source: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/news/october-13-2021-banned-and-restricted-announcement

Brainstorm was banned in historic on July 21, 2021. To improve format diversity, Brainstorm is suspended in Historic. While decks like Izzet Phoenix and Jeskai Control are not showing win rates that threaten balance, their steadily high metagame share is certainly harming deck diversity, which in turn reduces the fun of the format.
